"God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God." Psalm 53:2

re CATHOLIC CENTRAL NEW STADIUM !

 milkweed brings back childhood memories

is this the LATEST POWER BOAT owned by  the  RICHARD DEVOS FAMILY? i remember "warp factor" ...i think that was their first scarab back in the 70's or 80's... I assume it's owned by the Amway Devos family (also owners of the orlando magic) because it has been parked there for decades, and their cottage walking distance from there

sort of looks like my mom's childhood boat, MaLindiBar

 wild turkeys

the famous old felt mansion near saugatuck

these were the "codes" the mechanic said he got from the diagnostic he did on my car in holland michigan...actually all it really needed was a new radiator (another new one)...the catalytics yes also but not urgent despite the mechanic misleading me into thinking i might not make it back to california if I don't get new catalytics for $900...well, i'm back and i have the same catalytics, just a new radiator...

i took a walk along lakeshore drive near my late grandpa's cottage where we spent a few weeks every summer in the 70's

i remember the westrates' fairly well (right next door), and the blairs' a little

this was my late  "uncle joe's " cottage on the far end of the property (actually my mom's uncle)
the peters have kept the driveway "rustic"...most of the long driveways are now paved

the good ol' water tower still here...wonder if there's actually any water in it or they just leave it up for rustic sake

over-exposed photo: it says "mike schaap" on the side, some sort of home improvement service...the guy was fixiing something at the end of the driveway so I thought it might be mike himself, but it was an employee...I told him that I was related to the schaaps ...he didn't seem to care...i told him to tell mike hello from one of the grandson's of my late grandma kathryn schaap ( I guess his mom was kathryn's sister, making Mike my cousin) ...don't know for sure it's the same mike schaap, but he did grow up in grand rapids, & I think we played together a few times as kids, also see

took a walk on the beachside from tunnel park southward

that's unique: a calvin college and hope college combined flag
they also have a CUBS & TIGERS flag

all the cottages look the same or nicer...the beaches are short in some places, but long in other sections

I wasn't exactly sure anymore where "grandpa's cottage" was from the beach side..I couldn't see over the bluff that well, but when I saw the big rectangle chunk of styrofoam next to a hoby cat I began to think I might be near the right place...we used to play on that big chunk way back in the 70's...are they (grandpa's 2nd family still owns the cottage) still using it? looks like it. wow!

these windows looked familiar ...I think this is IT ! Behind those upstairs windows was the room where Nancy slept when we were kids (my grandpa's 2nd wife),

none of these breakwaters were here back in the 70's as best as I can recall

the LONG STEPS of this section of beach always fascinated me (these are relatively short)...some of them actually have electric rollers so they don't have to walk up and down

I reminisched for a few minutes in front of 368 lakeshore drive (beach side) thinking about all the times we spent here on the beach, in the water, on the boat(s), inside playing games in the cottage or "castle" , on the trampoline, cutting my foot on a broken bottle, running around, walking to "kitchen cupboard" , walking to tunnel park, walking to holland state beach, family reunions, learning to do a flip on the trampoline, playing monopoly, my brother playing chess with my grandpa, playing "operator" around the table, learning to water ski, and the list goes on... I remember mark, ani, teri, nancy, grandpa leo, my own brothers & sister, the kammingas, occassional visits from the vangenderens family, and the list goes on...

last time I was here I saw kim westrate on the beach...she gave me a hug...she is SO NICE.

...so I kept reminisching until somebody next door (the bos cottage if they still own it) came out and looked down and maybe wondered what this "stranger" was doing...so I moved onward

lots of these jet skis along the beach along with their transporters...

"I will praise God's name in song & glorify himwith thanksgiving. This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns & hoofs. The poor will see & be glad — you who seek God, may your hearts live!"
