3/11/15 JUAN MELENDEZ (17 YEARS ON DEATH ROW UNTIL INNOCENCE PROVEN) SPEAKING @ UCI...good presentation at newkirk center re Mr. Melendez who now is a public speaker about his experience and death row in general for "Witness to Innocence" . He also has a video entitled "Juan Melendez 6446" (the number of days he was wrongly imprisoned); and also "One for Ten" . His story is another example of serious problems with the "justice system" (or injustice system as it may be). How many innocent persons have been executed? We may never know, but if we abolish the death penalty we can be sure no more will be. I'm not a bleeding-heart liberal but I am against the death penalty for prisoners as well as for unborn babies.
Nice thing is that Mr. Melendez seems to have adjusted to his free life...he tells a story with a balanced amount of anger but also humor. Let us keep him and others like him in our thoughts & prayers and remain involved in what's happening to our prisoners.
